September 30, 2009, WASHINGTON - Numerous African American Chambers across the country from Portland to Boston havecome together to form the National Alliance of African American Chambers (NAAAC). The newly formed organization had an inaugural reception last Thursday, September 29th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Washington, DC during the Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference. The guest included over 250 diverse representatives from the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Attendees included Master of Ceremony George Fraser of FraserNet, Joseph Alderete, Managing Director of Supplier Diversity for Southern California Edison, Congresswoman Laura Richardson from California, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Administration John Fernandez, Department of Homeland Security OSDEBU Director Dan Sturdivant and Maggie and John Anderson from the Empowerment Experiment.
Fraser passionately spoke about the need for the African-American community"to connect the dots" and create synergistic energy that will lead to the economic empowerment of the African-American community. "Given the NAAAC's mission, we will work to provide leadership in uniting the Faith community, Black Enterprises, the Nonprofit Sector, the Public Sector and the Private Sector in the development of resources and initiatives that will contribute to the economic development and empowerment of the Black community," says Clayton Hammond, Chairman on NAAAC. The newly formed NAAAAC is a trade association of African-American Chambers of Commerce and business organizations across the nation.
